Catch a concert in the park in Aurora area this summer

Grab a blanket and pack a picnic basket — summer concerts are back. In collaboration with the Village of Montgomery, the Fox Valley Park District will again offer its Free Concerts in the Park series this summer, kicking off 7:30 p.m. June 9, with five other Thursday evening concerts to follow.

As one of Chicago's largest and oldest suburbs, Aurora's history denotes some of the most progressive moments in Chicago-area history and Illinois history, to boot. Incorporated in 1845, Aurora introduced the state's first free public school a decade later and a high school for girls in 1855, according to the Aurora Historical Society's web site.

Free concerts planned in downtown Aurora

Millennium Plaza along Stolp Avenue next to Leland Tower in downtown Aurora will host 18 free concerts this summer. The concerts are part of Wednesdays at the Plaza, a free summer concert series; First Fridays in downtown Aurora; and Summer Second Saturdays, a free afternoon with family entertainment and activities.

Aurora named top place to live American Dream

Aurora is a top place in the country to live the American Dream, according to a new survey from a personal finance company.

Wrestlers, bobbleheads, fireworks among added draws at Cougars games

As usual, baseball won't be the only draw for Cougars fans heading to Northwestern Medicine Field during the summer. The club always is on the lookout for new promotions, and one such opportunity arose via Operation Support our Troops-America. The organization has held its main fundraiser at Cantigny in Wheaton for years. With Cantigny going through renovations, however, a new venue was needed. In stepped the Cougars, who will host the July 22 event, featuring a performance from Lynyrd Skynyrd.
